Stencils can be fast, efficient, clean and neat. With practice most operators
can paint slogans/designs in seconds.
To make your own disposable stencils you need only acquire some large-ish cardboard boxes, a craft or 'Stanley' knife, pencil, ruler, and a flat cutting surface.
Cut your card into the size you require. (We will use 450mmx300mm as our example).
From the top of your board measure down 15mm then draw a horizontal line right across your board, then measure down 80mm and draw another line across. Repeat these two steps until you run out of board. You should have alternating thick and thin bands!
Draw a vertical line down the dead centre of your board.
Arrange the lettering of your slogan between the lines of the thicker bands, one word to each band. Always start from the centre of the board and work outwards so that the vertical line runs through the centre of each word.
Pencil in your lettering, making them as thick as seems sensible. Be sure that you are satisfied with the position and content of your lettering, and be certain of your spelling! Round letters such as 'O' and 'Q' should be drawn as ovals.
Cut out your lettering. Work from the inside of your pencil lines. Do not waste time trying to make perfect stencils, just be as neat as you can. Cut out and remove the letters completely; that means everything within your pencil lines. You will realise that letters such as A,P,O and R will appear solid when painted; this is deliberate and is done to save time and effort! The only exception to the above recommendation is the letter 'D'…, this should have some space between the upright and the reversed 'C'. (Once you have a little more stencil making practice you will achieve higher standards).
Now you are ready to practice painting!
We suggest you do this somewhere private. You can strip the wallpaper from
a wall if you like, and practice all you need before painting/papering over
your trials.
For stencilling you should use matt sprays as these dry faster than other
paint types, and run far less. Avoid garish colours because they really don't
work that well!
When spraying use even strokes working from side to side. You should, with
practice, be able to cover each area with just one pass. Firmly hold your
stencil flat against the surface you intend to spray, and keep it as steady
as you can.
Clear your paint nozzle after every stencil by holding the spray can upside down and spraying out the excess paint. This might seem like a waste, but a clogged nozzle will waste far more!
Pick out the locations you want to stencil beforehand. Always remember that the longer a job takes the higher your chances of being captured become. Always strive to do quality work. Do one set of stencils and then move to another area, constantly varying your routes, distance between jobs, transport, etc. Never return to defaced works! Try to keep to positive slogans, avoid negative ones. Do not deface public property because that belongs to our people. Avoid, so far as is possible, defacing private property, as this might alienate more than just the owner, who might, in any case, be sympathetic to our aims! (There are plenty places in between, don't worry!)
Remember to dispose of all your unwanted materials carefully. If someone were to find them they might be able to link them to you via fingerprints, DNA etc. If you happen to be captured remember the golden rule is always to 'Admit nothing'! Keep quiet and get a solicitor as fast as you can. Buy yourself time to organise your defence.
